Routine Tasks of the
Virtual Pilot
  • Aviates
  • Navigates
  • Communicates with the commander on the ground
  • Communicates with other airborne aircraft
  • Performs terrain, weather and collision avoidance
Higher Level Tasks that the Virtual Pilot Can Do:
  • Conduct bomb damage assessment
  • Evaluate weather variables
  • Coordinate search patterns
  • Fly precision formation
Proxy's Universal Autonomous Systems

The heart of Cooperative Flight is the Virtual Pilot. It is a computer that performs the airborne tasks required for complex tactical flight. The Virtual Pilot allows one operator to control up to 12 unmanned aircraft and 20 additional sensors or ground control stations. This capability is a significant advantage over traditional existing unmanned aircraft systems which require one pilot to fly each individual aircraft.

In essence, the operator functions as a mission commander, while the Virtual Pilot flies the aircraft and continuously performs routine flight tasks. The software frees the operator to focus on the higher mission objectives, such as mission changes and multi-sensor and weapons management.

This breakthrough technology is a rules-based expert system that makes decisions and adapts to mission dynamics. Integrated with UDMS, the Virtual Pilot allows individual aircraft to share messages with each other. Every aircraft on the network knows every other aircraft's location, pertinent sensor information, and full systems status. The modular planning tool builds and executes the operator defined mission plan and allows real time modifications as the tactical situation dictates.

The Universal Distributed Management System (UDMS) expands the power of Cooperative Flight to existing ground control stations and communications networks. With the UDMS software, one pilot controls multiple unmanned aircraft and sensors in an IP based open architecture that can be adapted to a wide range of communications and network systems.

The Power of Cooperative Flight allows more sensors and more aircraft to operate simultaneously in the same space, to share information and to work together as a team.
